RE: Putting my 5th wheel on jack stands for the winter

This is what goodyear says about storing:
5. How do I store my vehicle without removing the tires?
--Avoid moving the vehicle during extremely cold weather
--Move the vehicle at least every three months to prevent ozone cracking in the tire bulge area, as well as "flat-spotting" from the prolonged strain of sidewall and tread deflection
--Adjust inflation before putting the vehicle back into service
If you can (weather permitting) just jack up the tire/wheel as you would normally and rotate the wheel to a new location and let it down. sounds simple.
Avoid moving the vehicle in extremely cold weather?
Never heard that one before. Will something break??

RE: Unknowingly You've Created A Monster

Contact Earth Roamer. His vehicles are designed to do off road excursions and is designed around what you are asking for and thinking about. And your type of usage. He will custom build, but incorporate your wants.
Do a search for his units. I think you will be impressed.

RE: New GMC 2005, never titeled. Is that a problem??

This vehicle must have been forgotten some how in the inventory for it be sitting for this length of time. A dealer or car lot will move them through the auto auction after about six months if they don't get some interest.
Why continue to pay taxes on some thing that is not going to add to the bottom line. Loan value if your interested in buying.

Get a watts from Camping world set up to use. They usually are set at 50 psi and have a gage to monitor the pressure.

RE: 2008 Dodge CTD First Oil Change

Krazymatt;
You got some good advice here. Being your new to the diesel adventure read-read everything you can and get knowledge especially the OWNERS manual. Go to the diesel web sites and register and ask questions. Just remember there is no DUMB question. One word of caution, wally world has a good price on oil, Stay away from the Fram oil filter, they disintegrate and plug the oil cooling nozzles under the pistons. Use Fleetguard, from Geno's garage, or Cummins dealers. Hastings is good, Napa filters are made by these guys. Also for information, The CJ4 oil needs to be changed a little sooner than the 15,000 being suggested, It does not contain the additives that the CI4 did to suspend the soot and give decent lubrication.

RE: Bug guts on front cap

A little info about the ingredients in dryer sheets.
Benzyl acetate: Linked to pancreatic cancer
Benzyl Alcohol: Upper respiratory tract irritant
Ethanol: On the Environmental Protection Agency's (EPA) Hazardous Waste list and can cause central nervous system disorders
Limonene: Known carcinogen
A-Terpineol: Can cause respiratory problems, including fatal edema, and central nervous system damage
Ethyl Acetate: A narcotic on the EPA's Hazardous Waste list
Camphor: Causes central nervous system disorders
Chloroform: Neurotoxic, anesthetic and carcinogenic
Linalool: A narcotic that causes central nervous system disorders
Pentane: A chemical known to be harmful if inhaled
(Your skin is your largest organ, People. Nicotene patches work because what you put on your skin ends up in your blood stream.)
I don't get near them. I don't even walk down that aisle in the store. I have found that a magic eraser gets the last bits of bug bits off in a snap -- sans poison. I haven't seen any difference in my paint and if you're that concerned about it, wash the bugs off as soon as you can. They come off much easier the first day after a trip.
If this stuff was there you would have a caution on the box, and there would be MSDA data avalble.
On our box it says there is softing agents and perfume added to a
non-woven sheet. Oh well.
Just use the same solution you would use to treat your tanks, the Murphy solution treatment. I used it and worked great on the bugs.

RE: camp ground that alow 36ft 5th wheel

Along with the previous suggestions, here is mine for what its worth. My group seven rigs stayed at Bakers Hole. They have some elec. there no water or dump but you can either waite and dump at the next stop or go into the park. we stayed for three days/nites and half cost for the camp,(golden age passport) 7.00 6.00 for the power, and commuted into the park. Bakers Hole is a forest camp ground with level sites, three miles north of West Yellowstone Mt. and they will accommodate Large out fits with plenty of room. Mine is 37'8".

RE: Wheel chocks - what kind is best?

If this link works it will show you a home made chock that just takes a little time. I made the same and they work good. so now if you have a lot of money, which I figured I did not have, and purchase one of the mentioned brands which are all good then do it. I just made an other set for a Christmas gift....

RE: Wheel chocks - what kind is best?

I am looking for wheel chocks that will keep the trailer from rolling away after it has been unhitched. My first wheel chocks were a couple of X's wedged under the tires, but after having the Th wheel roll right over them I went to the kind that sit on the ground and tighten between the tires. I've never really liked them because they come loose on one tire when I raise or lower jacks, and they really jab deeply into the other tire. Also, if you use levelers on one side you can only chock the other side. Last weekend, before putting down the stab jacks I went in the trailer and it slid sideways. I have read about people who had the plastic ones slide across the ground, so I just bought a set that are above the ground and tighten between the wheels. In box there was a warning that said "NOT TO BE USED TO HOLD THE TRAILER - ONLY FOR STABILIZATION."
So what kind of chocks will actually keep the trailer from rolling around?

RE: Backing up a fifth wheel

Just me,
I have towing mirrors, I have to remove then to get the camper behind the gate. I also have to tilt my stock drivers side mirror in to prevent hitting the fence. It's that close.
Thanks for pointing that out. So-what your sayin is, that you back that dude in blind!!!!with eyes in the rear----LOL.

Drinkwater--you do alot of guessing with those short mirrors. I can see how your neighbor helps you out, with his burban sitting there.
Your about as tight as mine, but I can see down the sides of mine with mirrors.

RE: Backing up a fifth wheel

The hand at the bottom of the steering wheel never did work for me, although it makes perfect sense.
Also, one can, with a four wheel drive vehicle, put the transfer case in 4 wheel low. Slows you down, makes it easier to back in without all that speed in normal reverse.
Sorry about your post Norsky, but I wanted to emphasis your point with the Transfer case. If it is at all possible, by pass the front axle engagement, if you can figure out how to do this, warn hubs vacuum actuator, or a by pass kit. Some 4x4's it can not be accomplished and you just have to deal with it.
My point is that with a manual trans, it will help a lot and you will not have to slip your clutch, it will just crawl and there is twice the power available to maneuver.
I have members in my RV group I have tried to educate on the use of the transfer case while parking (low range) its easier on the trans and engine. Try it some time and see for your self. Mines fixed so I can maneuver in low range two wheel manual trans. Auto's build extra heat you have to watch for.

RE: Fifth wheels for export

If you look on the one posted link it is a Aussy dealer to contact. If there roads in Australia are like New Zealand's roads, don't think I would like driven with a 5ver down there. Roads are kind of narrow. How ever, there are class "A"s down there, a few 5vers and a lot of class "C", and converted vans in NZ. Funny thing is they drive on the wrong side of the road, which for us northern folks is a challenge. Been there and done that.

What got me about JC Whitney is they advertise free shipping if the item is over $75.00, when you go to check out there is a shipping and handleing fee, so any savings has gone away.
